Director Aneesh Chaganty’s drama-thriller Searching is one of the best examples of the “Screenlife” subgenre to date, and we’ve learned today that a sequel is now in the works.
Deadline reports that Will Merrick & Nick Johnson will direct for Sony’s Stage 6 Films. Merrick and Johnson, the site notes, were part of the editorial team on the first movie.
The film will “tell a different story from the original,” with Merrick and Johnson also writing the script based on a story by Sev Ohanian and Aneesh Chaganty.
Deadline adds, “Searching 2‘s plot is still under wraps, but it will feature a new set of characters and an evolved Screenlife thriller format where the story plays out on the screens of the characters’ devices. The original starred Cho as a dad who breaks into his daughter’s computer when she goes missing, in a desperate attempt to track her down.”
Natalie Qasabian, Chaganty, Sev Ohanian, and Timur Bekmambetov will produce.
